A Love Letter From All Eternity
"You have ravished my heart, my sister, my bride, you have ravished my heart with a glance of your eyes, with one jewel of your necklace. How sweet is your love, my sister, my bride! How much better is your love than wine, and the fragrance of your oils than any spice!"
(Song of Solomon, 4:9‐10)
All of Scripture is a love letter.
God had me in mind when He inspired my favorite psalm, my favorite verse, my favorite book of the Bible. He had me in mind when He, through the sacred author, had written every word of every book contained in Scripture.
From all eternity He knew that these words—this Word—would touch my heart, make it burn with love for Him. He knew which verses would make me uncomfortable, which passages would challenge me, which words would make me pause and reflect. Before He spoke light into existence, before He breathed His own life into clay, this love letter was already intended for me, for you, for all humanity.
He knew my favorite psalm before He formed me in my mother's womb. He knew my favorite verse of my favorite gospel before I ever spoke a word. He wrote upon my heart the words of His Heart long before I ever learned how to read them.
This love is boundless. This love is infinite. This love is the love that we were created for.
