Hearts on Fire
Updated: Jun 9
"I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!"
His Heart burns with love for us. Not as a candle’s fire burns, that steady flickering against surrounding darkness, but like a blazing inferno. Brighter than the brilliance of a billion suns. Hotter than the heat in which the universe first burst forth. The radiance of this Heart purges all sin, all division, and every imperfection.
This love is so strong it broke the gates of hell and trampled even death. This is the Heart whose wounds destroyed the ancient enemy’s power over our fickle hearts.
And at the same time this love is incredibly, indescribably gentle. A bruised reed He will not break. A smoldering wick He will not quench. He speaks from a thundering mountain, yes; He speaks from a burning bush. And He speaks in a still, small voice.
Because His Heart beats within us, within all who have received Him, the very Life Himself, in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar.
And so within the silence we hear the steady beat of the Sacred Heart, the quiet voice with which His Heart whispers to ours. Within us burns that brilliance brighter than a billion suns, a fire hotter than the big bang, a hope more steady than flickering candlelight.
Caught up by this fire, may we burn with this fire, and sent out bearing His Heart, may we set the whole world ablaze.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.
